All dogs that live on Westport Island or visit for 10 days or longer must be licensed every year. Licensing for 2025 is now underway and the state's online dog licensing system is up and running! You will need a current rabies vaccine certificate uploaded as a pdf to get started. If you don't have one, email us - we have many of your rabies certificates scanned in already. Please try to license online before coming in to license in person, as the state has implemented a new system that works best online. If you can't make it work, come on in and we are happy to help!   

Two applications have been made for Limited Purpose Aquaculture licenses to grow oysters in the Squam Creek estuary. There is a two-week public comment period ending 1/16/25. Please contact the Department of Marine Resources at dmraquaculture@maine.gov with any comments. 

Helping Hands has made the difficult decision to close the food pantry at the Wright House due to changing community needs. Co-Chairs Michael Cromwell and Linda Davis, and all current and former members of Helping Hands, deserve a big community thank you for their years of hard work running the pantry. Helping Hands will continue serving the community for the time being through other means such as fuel assistance and grocery gift cards. If you need help, please reach out to them, and see our resources webpage for other sources of help.  If you would like to donate to Westport Island residents in need, the Westport Community Association has agreed to accept donations earmarked for that purpose until alternatives can be found. Please send checks made out to the Westport Community Association with "for residents in need" in the memo line to the Town Office at 6 Fowles Point Road. 

Are you a builder or contractor? Know one? We need to hire someone to make repairs to the historic Town Hall and build an ADA compliant entryway structure and bathroom. Please email townclerk@westportisland.gov if interested in any of those projects!

The town will be acquiring an electric sign before the end of the year. This will enable us to announce many more town meetings and events, and will also help notify residents of important safety information during emergences. If you have any questions, reach out to townclerk@westportisland.gov.  

The DOT will be re-paving the Westport bridge at some point. You can check out the plan here. Once again, our patience and neighborliness will be tested as we wait for the light to turn green (even if no one is coming the other way! 😊
