Voters may now submit an absentee ballot application to have an absentee ballot provided in the manner indicated on the application when they become available in early October. See the Absentee Voting Notice for details. 

Property tax bills have gone out! Payment is due by 10/15/24. Some taxpayers may have seen a larger than usual increase due to a correction in how the town calculates the tax on acreage in excess of base lots. See the Select Board's letter for details. 

The town has some grant money to spend before the end of the year on a new electric announcement sign for the head of the island. The sign will be 3x6 and positioned to be read by cars approaching across the bridge. To be consistent with the rural character of the island, the sign will have a wooden frame and messages will be presented in neutral colors such as white or amber on black. It can also be adjusted to turn down or off late at night. In addition to being able to announce many more town functions than we currently are able, the sign will be especially useful in emergencies to notify residents of things like trees down on roads or power outages. The DOT will be re-paving the Westport bridge over the fall. You can check out the plan here. Once again, our patience and neighborliness will be tested as we wait for the light to turn green (even if no one is coming the other way! 😊 

The Town of Westport Island is accepting bids for repairs to the front of the historic Town Hall including removal and replacement of the wood clapboard siding, painting, and refinishing and restoring of all window frames and historical window embellishments. The Town of Westport Island is accepting bids for construction and installation of an ADA compliant entryway structure for the historic Town Hall, including a platform, ramp, and stairs. Midcoast Maine Community Action is now accepting applications for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) for the 2024-2025 heating season.
